Leishmania IgG/IgM Antibody Joint Test is an immunochromatographic assay that use immuno-capture method for qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies against to Leishmania donovani (L.donovani) in human serum and plasma specimens. It’s intended used as an aid in the diagnosis of the disease of visceral leishmaniasis.

SUMMARY:

Leishmaniasis is caused by a protozoa parasite from over 20 species among Leishmania spp. transmitted by over 90 sandfly species. There are 3 main forms of the disease, in which visceral leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala-azar, is the most severe form of leishmaniasis which presents with fever, weight loss, and an enlarged spleen and liver VL throughout East Africa and the Middle East. The global burden of VL is estimated at 0.2 to 0.4 million cases with 50,000 to 90,000 new cases of VL occur worldwide annually resulting in estimated 50,000 deaths every year. Over 95% of cases can be fatal without early diagnosis and proper treatment and results in 2.357 million disability-adjusted life years lost. In visceral leishmaniasis, diagnosis is made by combining clinical signs with parasitological, or serological tests. Rapid serological tests of anti-L.donovani antibodies are important for proper treatment and control of the disease.
